Tanzania is a land of staggering diversity, from the expansive plains of the Serengeti and the game rich landscapes of the Ngorongoro Crater, to the remote beauty of the Great Rift Valley, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Park. This is a country of raw majesty, where Kilimanjaro’s iconic shadow is a breathtaking backdrop to some of the finest vistas anywhere and where the famous migration roams.
Depart in the evening from Heathrow by Kenya Airways via Nairobi to Kilimanjaro.
Transfer on arrival to Arusha. Overnight stay at the Snow Crest Hotel.
After breakfast begin your drive to Tarangire National Park, well known for its huge herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as lion, cheetah and leopard. Afternoon game drive and overnight at the Tarangire Sopa Lodge. (B/L/D)
After your morning game drive, continue on to the Ngorongoro conservation area. Enjoy the beguiling views of the Ngorongoro Crater World Heritage Site – the world’s largest intact caldera spanning some 8,300sq km, which is the stomping ground for around 25,000 wild animals at any one time. Stay 2 nights at the Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge. (B/L/D)
Today you’ll descend the 600m into the crater by 4x4 for a full-day safari, amongst the most densely packed concentration of wildlife in Africa. You may see wildebeests, elephants, lions, zebras and hyenas to name a few, as well as being one of the most likely areas in the country to be able to witness the endangered black rhino. On the lakeside there are also pelicans, ibis and flamingo. (B/L/D)
In the morning visit Olduvai Gorge, commonly referred to as ‘The Cradle of Mankind’, where Professor Louis Leakey discovered some of the earliest evidence of human existence. Continue to the Serengeti National Park, where you will stay at the Serengeti Sopa Lodge for 2 nights. (B/L/D)
A full-day game drive across Tanzania’s oldest game park, the Serengeti – the Masai word for endless plains. The plains are matched by the seemingly endless wildlife that sweeps across these timeless vistas. On your game drive today you have every chance of seeing the Serengeti’s big game, including lions, leopards, buffalo and elephants as well as vast herds of zebra and wildebeest, a natural stage of truly matchless grandeur. (B/L/D)
In the morning drive through the famous Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara. Lake Manyara lies at the base of the Manyara escarpment on the edge of the Rift Valley and is surrounded by a rich mix of habitats excellent for birdwatching, elephants and the world’s largest concentration of baboons. Spend the afternoon viewing the tremendous array of game and potentially offering you the chance of glimpsing Manyara’s famous tree climbing lions. Overnight at the Kirurum Tented Camp. (B/L/D)
In the morning you will have your final game drive at Lake Manyara before you return to Arusha for lunch. Depart in the evening with Kenya Airways to Nairobi where you will connect onto your Kenya Airways flight to London. Alternatively relax on one of the gorgeous white sand beaches of Zanzibar. (B/L)
Arrive at London Heathrow in the morning.
